CONDITION GUIDE Fine (F): very close to As New, though the book may have been opened or carefully read. Near Fine (NF): approaching Fine, with a couple of very minor defects, such as a former owner name (FON) on the front free endpaper (FFEP). Very Good (VG): shows signs of previous ownership and use but is still a very nice copy; two or three minor flaws. Good (G): significant wear, which may include tears to the dust jacket or wear to the edges of the wraps, boards or text block. Specific issues are noted. All pages and a fully intact cover are present. Fair: noticeable wear. Non-essential pages such as the FFEP or rear free endpaper (RFEP) may be missing, but the entire text and all plates are present. A serviceable reading copy. Poor: significant wear and faults. Still a readable reading copy. Any missing pages are noted. Ex-Library: a condition of its own, since library stamps and tape on the jacket usually mean no collectible value. That standard has relaxed over the years.
WHAT IS AND ISN'T MENTIONED Writing in a book beyond common marks (a former price, stock number, owner name or initials) and major condition issues are always described. A book graded VG or below may have minor issues typical of used books that are not listed, such as bumping, creasing, prices or owner inscriptions.
