A remarkable 19th-century French ecclesiastical ciborium crafted in solid silver with a richly gilded vermeil interior. The piece is exceptionally detailed, featuring high-relief repoussé work, fine chasing, and delicate guilloché engraving throughout.
The circular domed base is decorated with openwork medallions depicting Christ in profile, Saint John, and Charity, surrounded by Eucharistic symbols including wheat sheaves, reeds, and grapevine tendrils. The central stem features an inverted pear-shaped node decorated with the Holy Trinity triangle, the Sacred Heart, and the Tables of the Law.
The beautifully pierced band around the vermeil cup is decorated with grapevine motifs. The matching domed lid is surmounted by a floriated cross set upon a sunburst rose.
A fine example of French ecclesiastical silverwork from the mid-19th century, combining elaborate religious symbolism with highly refined silversmithing.
