The KONUS Konusmall-2 7-17x30 is a compact zoom monocular featuring a dual focusing system and a tripod mount. While mounting the device on a tripod is not necessary at magnifications up to 10–12x, doing so at higher magnifications helps stabilize the image against hand tremors.

The primary optical surfaces of the Konusmall-2 7-17x30 monocular are treated with multiple layers of specialized coatings. This coating significantly improves light transmission at the glass-air interface, resulting in a bright, high-contrast image.

Focusing at any selected magnification (from 7x to 17x) is performed in two stages: coarse focusing is achieved by extending the objective lens, while fine focusing is done by rotating the ring on the lens barrel. At lower magnifications, the exit pupil diameter is comfortable for extended viewing; however, at the highest magnifications, periodic breaks are recommended to rest the eyes.

The body is constructed from anodized metal, featuring a non-slip textured finish on the extendable sections. For ease of adjustment, the focusing and zoom rings are equipped with fixed rubber grips featuring a ribbed texture. The eyepiece features a retractable rubber eyecup; both the eyepiece lens and the objective lens are protected by removable rubber "flip-up" style caps.

There are virtually no restrictions on the device's use (except in extreme weather conditions). Due to the large number of moving parts, the monocular's body cannot be effectively sealed; therefore, submerging the device in water is strictly not recommended. However, it is well-protected against splashing, so brief exposure to rain will not harm the optics.
