Antique Hiatt Best Warranted Wrought Darby-Pattern Handcuffs – Matching No. 25

An interesting old pair of heavy wrought iron/steel Hiatt handcuffs in their original aged condition.

One cuff carries the maker’s markings:

HIATT

BEST

WARRANTED WROUGHT

Both cuffs appear to be stamped with the matching number 25, as photographed.

Approximate measurements:

Overall length when extended: 10 inches / 25.4cm

Weight: approximately 440g

These show substantial age and use, including widespread surface rust, oxidation, pitting, discolouration, scratches, marks and general wear. Please inspect the detailed photographs closely for their exact condition.

They have received only a gentle surface clean. No attempt has been made to remove the aged patina, polish the metal or restore them.

Important: No key is included. I have therefore been unable to test the locking/unlocking mechanism and these are being sold as untested. I cannot confirm whether a replacement key would operate them correctly.

I have also deliberately not attributed these handcuffs to a particular police force, railway company or other organisation, as I have found no sufficiently clear ownership marking to support such a claim.
