• Da Nang Air Base: Operated as one of South Vietnam's largest and busiest airfields for offensive and support missions.
• Marble Mountain Air Facility: Supported extensive U.S. Marine Corps helicopter operations across the southern sectors of I Corps.
• Naval Support Activity Danang: Managed massive logistics, supply, and maintenance operations from the Tiensha Peninsula and Monkey Mountain areas.
Key Events in 1967–1968
• 1967 Rocket Attacks: The air base and surrounding installations faced persistent nighttime rocket and sapper attacks from the Viet Cong, including a major assault on July 15, 1967, that destroyed several aircraft.
• The Tet Offensive (1968): On January 30–31, 1968, North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong forces launched synchronized surprise attacks targeting the city, the I Corps headquarters, and the air facilities.
• Outcome: Allied forces successfully repelled the assaults, inflicting heavy communist casualties and securing the strategic base despite the wider psychological impact of the offensive across the war.
This is an original engraved Vietnam Zippo lighter from 1960’s - 1975 Vietnam war era.
The lighter case is in a used condition with some signs of wear.
As the product is an old item, there are scratches and stains from age. Please see the picture for the details or ask me before your purchase.
I can send the lighter with the original insert inside Australia but international post the original insert has to be disassembled and it sometimes is still returned as they deem it as dangerous as it has been used so
For safety reasons and shipping rules, I will ship with the oil removed and disassemble the lighter. (case, inside unit, spring and flint) It’s better anyways as it’s original.
You will need to re-assemble by yourself. It’s easy - if you’re not sure please ask me how.
Overall a very rare and collectible original Vietnam zippo with lots of historical and social significance.
