Description: A lovely early 1900s Art Nouveau pure silk portrait picture woven by the Bertrand & Boiron Company in St.Etienne, France. The design was most likely made for a postcard but this one is presented in a new oval cut mount. Possibly it is a little larger than the postcard version. The design was called 'La Dentelle' (translated as 'Lace' which is perhaps what the lady is holding in her hands.

The picture was woven on a Jacquard loom in much the same was as Stevengraph pictures were produced.

A little about the little known Bertrand & Boiron Company. In 1904 they produced a series of 35 Art Nouveau silk postcards. The third image is of a 1904  advertisement with the card numbers (La Dentelle' is number 13). Previously these cards were though to be woven by Neyret Frères (also in St.Etienne) but in the Musée D'Arts in that City, there is a book collection from the B&B weavers (image 4 + a page from the design of 'Cyclamen' number 34).
The company also produced many WWI cards. They are quite rare these days. The last two images are for illustration only - they are not part of the sale.

Size: This weaving is mounted in a modern oval mount. The silk size is  3 x 4.5 inches (approximately) and the mount size is 7 x 8 inches.

Condition: Despite the card being 120 years old it is in remarkably good condition. The colours are still crisp and there is no damage to the silk. There is nothing of interest on the back.
