The book is by Gamble and charts the history of the fire fighting up to the time of the book 1926. Very scarce book, covers the following pipes, hydrants, hoses and their history construction and maintenance and setting up a fire station crews quarters, siting arrangements, lockers etc, fitting poles hose drying stands, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, fire setting and arson detection, sprinkler systems, automatic alarms, fire bells and telephone systems, fire pumps, belts, clothes, axes, ladders and their construction, hooks and ropes slings, fire fighting and how to approach fires, call out times, sweeping up mess and returning to base, also firemans pay, medals and awards fire insurance, how a fireman should behave at all times.
There is an article, stating that a fireman should never wear his bravery awards in public as this is showy and bigheaded, even how to fit a firemans pole stating that it should never be solidly fixed to the floor and should hang down with a soft pad under it. also great fires and their causes, suns rays, cotton wool decaying etc, list of great fires of the world, water pumps and their workings and makers, almost all of the above have dedicated chapters to them in this large and comprehensive 544 page book. There are also superb adverts in the book, . 100% old and original.
