Item Description & History:

Add a piece of American industrial history to your collection or workspace. This is a genuine P&C model 1818 Heavy Duty 18-inch pipe wrench manufactured in the USA. This classic Stillson-pattern tool features a solid 16-inch overall footprint when closed and extends forward as the jaws open.

The face of the wrench head features the stamped P&C logo inside their distinctive elongated hexagon border. Beneath the logo, it reads "1818-HD MFD. U.S.A.". The sliding adjustable jaw neck is clearly marked with the "18B" model casting identifier.

Who Made It?

This wrench was produced by the P&C Hand Forged Tool Company. The company was founded around 1915 by John N. Peterson and Charles F. Carlborg—two highly skilled Swedish immigrant blacksmiths who couldn't find tools tough enough for their standards, so they began forging their own out of ultra-durable steel. The company built its legacy in Milwaukie, Oregon, before being acquired by Plomb Tool Co. (later known as Proto) in 1941.

Age & How to Date It:

This specific wrench is a mid-century piece dating between 1953 and the early 1960s. You can easily date this piece by looking closely at the metal stamp on the housing: it includes the registered trademark symbol (®) right below the P&C hex logo. P&C officially registered this trademark in 1953. Tools made prior to 1953 do not feature this specific registration mark, allowing us to accurately verify its mid-century production timeline.
