Most steel garages are a box with a door. This one is designed as a piece of architecture: a barn-style dual-pitch roof, matt black standing-seam steel on the walls and roof, and warm Winchester wood-effect steel slats on the front gable and inside a covered front recess.
The recess shelters the personnel door and a tall tilt-opening window, so you can walk in without opening the garage door and without standing in the rain. The garage door itself is an automatic sectional door, operated electrically.
Inside, there is no partition wall – one open space you can plan around a car, shelving, a workbench and the things you store.
The building shown is an example – not a limitation. Size, colours, door and window positions and the depth of the recess can be changed, subject to design, site and engineering requirements.
The garage door on the right opens onto the car bay. The personnel door in the covered front recess opens onto the left-hand side of the building – so the building naturally works as two spaces: the car on one side, your own space on the other.
As standard the interior is one open space. That suits a garage + workshop: park the car, and keep the workbench, tools, bikes and storage beside it, with your own entrance through the personnel door.
Want a separate room? Add an internal partition wall and the left-hand side becomes a room of its own – a home office, home gym, hobby room or store – while the car stays next door.
* A room you will sit or train in all year needs the optional internal partition and an insulated specification – the advertised building is a steel garage and its walls and roof are not insulated. Both options are quoted on request. Actual usable space depends on your vehicle, the fittings you add and your chosen layout.

The sectional garage door has a nominal size of 8ft 10in × 6ft 7in / 2.70m × 2.00m. The nominal size and the clear opening once the door is installed are not the same, because the door frame and mechanism sit inside the opening.
Check your vehicle’s width with mirrors, its height with roof rails or a roof box, and the room you need either side. Tall SUV, van or classic car? Send us the make and model through eBay messages before you order – a wider or taller door can be discussed.
Standing-seam cladding is made of long steel panels joined by raised vertical seams, the system used on modern houses and barn conversions. It gives crisp, regular lines across the walls and roof instead of the wavy profile of an ordinary metal garage.
On this building the seams are spaced at 500mm and finished in Matt Black RAL 9005, with Winchester wood-effect steel slats on the front for contrast.
The advertised building has anti-condensation felt under the roof and an insulated personnel door, but the walls and roof are not insulated. A steel building without insulation follows the outside temperature, so it is ideal as a garage and workshop but not as a room you sit or train in all year.
For a home office, home gym or heated hobby room, add two options: an internal partition wall to separate the room from the garage bay, and an insulated specification for walls and roof. Planning permission and Building Regulations requirements depend on the building’s size, height, position, use and your property. Please don’t assume an outbuilding automatically qualifies for permitted development.
This building is approx. 11ft 2in / 3.40m at the ridge, with side walls of approx. 7ft 7in / 2.30m. As a guide, in England permitted development limits an outbuilding within 2m of a boundary to 2.5m in height, so this building would normally need to sit more than 2m from any boundary – or be built lower, or go through a planning application. Rules differ in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and for some properties (for example listed buildings or conservation areas), so please check with your local authority.
Building Regulations are separate from planning permission. At approx. 34.8m² this building is above the 30m² limit of the small-detached-building exemption in England and Wales (in Scotland a building warrant is normally needed above 30m²), so ask your local Building Control what applies before you order.
