An exceptional French silvered bronze jardiniere dating from the 19th century, signed by the renowned Parisian silversmith and bronzier Victor Saglier.
This substantial centerpiece is a stunning example of 19th-century French decorative art, designed in the eclectic Louis XV style. The oblong body features deep, finely chased relief work with leafy tendrils, classical scrolls, and ornate cartouches. On each end, the double-scrolled handles feature sculpted female busts emerging from flowing acanthus leaves, giving the piece a strong sculptural character. The upper rim is accented with ribbon-tied floral swags, while the base rests securely on four pierced leaf-and-scroll feet.
The silvered finish has developed a beautiful, soft antique patina over time, which accentuates the depth of the casting and captures the light wonderfully. Inside, it retains its original removable metal liner.
Whether displayed on a dining table, console, or sideboard, this signed Saglier piece makes a commanding statement for collectors of fine French bronzes and antique silverwork.
