Gioacchino La Pira was a nineteenth-century Italian painter who specialised in Romantic gouache landscapes for travellers and tourists, especially wealthy aristocrats undertaking The Grand Tour.

The Neapolitan School of painting refers to the artistic movement that flourished in Naples, Italy, primarily during the 17th and 18th centuries. It's characterized by its distinctive style, influenced by the work of Caravaggio and later evolving into a vibrant Baroque school, heavily tied to the patronage of the Bourbon court. The School of Posillipo refers to a loose group of landscape painters, based in the waterfront Posillipo neighborhood of Naples, Italy. While some among them became academicians, it was not a formal school or association. In the 18th century, landscape painting or vedute had emerged as a profitable, and respectable, style of painting. Landscapes were, in part, higher in demand than depictions of Catholic religious imagery to buyers from Protestant Europe during the Age of the Enlightenment. This included the mainly aristocratic travellers on a grand tour of Southern Europe.
