Maria Calì Corleo [1884-1947] - Malta - Rare Maltese Impressionist.

Maria Corleo was born in 1884, daughter of Prof.

Gaetano Corleo, an Italian professor at the University of Malta. In 1910 she married Ramiro Rafael Cali, Giuseppe Cali's son. She was a good artist in her own right. Her capable hand with the palette knife and her oils, gouaches and watercolours are very much sought after following a period of indifference. Her reputation is backed by many scenes depicting Malta which are always original in concept and she managed the Maltese bright light with confidence. Among her eight sons and daughter we find Guido who became renowned as a very valid painter. She died in Sliema in 1947. Private collections in Malta and abroad
