Description
Offered here is a complete Royal Doulton Brambly Hedge Four Seasons cup and saucer collection, featuring the beloved illustrations of Jill Barklem.

The set includes all four seasonal designs:

A total of 8 pieces are included.

Each season features its own distinctive colour palette, botanical decoration, and detailed woodland scene inspired by the world of Brambly Hedge. Together, the four cup-and-saucer pairs form a complete seasonal collection representing Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

Please note that the Summer teacup has a small chip to the upper rim near the handle, clearly shown in the photographs. This condition issue has been fully considered in the description and pricing.

The listing is for the exact eight pieces shown in the photographs. Display stands and styling props are not included.

Design & Craftsmanship
The Four Seasons collection beautifully translates Jill Barklem's richly detailed woodland illustrations onto Royal Doulton tableware.

Each cup presents a different narrative scene populated by the mice of Brambly Hedge, surrounded by flowers, fruits, foliage, interiors, and seasonal details.

Spring is decorated in fresh yellow, green, and pastel tones, with woodland flowers and a charming mouse scene among the primroses.

Summer features soft pink and green floral decoration and a warm, abundant hedgerow atmosphere.

Autumn is especially richly coloured, with blackberries, rosehips, mushrooms, russet leaves, and a detailed woodland scene in deep seasonal tones.

Winter uses cooler blue, grey, brown, and muted red shades, with a cozy fireside scene on the cup and a winter mouse illustration on the saucer.

The cups also feature softly coloured pedestal feet corresponding to their seasonal palettes, along with elegant shaped handles and gently scalloped rims.

Printed Jill Barklem signatures appear within the illustrated scenes as part of the original decoration.

History & Dating
Brambly Hedge was created, written, and illustrated by Jill Barklem, whose detailed artwork depicts the lives of a community of mice living among the hedgerows of the English countryside.

Royal Doulton produced an extensive Brambly Hedge Gift Collection featuring Barklem's illustrations across tableware, giftware, and collectible pieces.

This set belongs to the highly recognizable Four Seasons series and includes the complete seasonal sequence of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

The cups are individually marked with their respective season names and © Jill Barklem 1983. The matching saucers are marked:

“A Series of Four Seasons Cups and Saucers
From the Brambly Hedge Gift Collection”

These matching seasonal backstamps confirm that the pieces belong together as part of the original Four Seasons collection.

Collector Appeal
Royal Doulton Brambly Hedge has developed a strong following among collectors of English china, illustrated tableware, children's literature memorabilia, cottage-style décor, and Royal Doulton giftware.

The Four Seasons series is particularly desirable because each cup and saucer works as an individual collectible, while the complete set creates a coherent narrative through the changing seasons.

This offering includes all four seasons together, making it especially appealing to collectors who prefer a complete collection rather than acquiring the pieces individually.

The detailed woodland imagery and seasonal colour palettes also make the set well suited to cabinet display, cottagecore interiors, English country décor, seasonal tea displays, or gifting to a Brambly Hedge enthusiast.

Condition
Good pre-owned vintage condition overall, with one clearly disclosed condition issue.

The Summer teacup has a small visible chip to the upper rim near the handle, as shown clearly in the close-up photographs.

The remaining Spring, Autumn, and Winter teacups and the four matching saucers appear free from obvious chips or major cracks based on visual inspection.

No obvious crazing is visible in the photographs. The printed decoration remains bright, colourful, and well preserved overall.

Light age-related surface marks, minor utensil wear, or other small signs of previous use may be present, consistent with vintage tableware.

Please inspect all photographs carefully, especially the close-up photographs of the Summer cup rim. The photographs show the exact items included and form an important part of the condition description.
