Sheet is in excellent condition, no foxing or toning, colors still bright, full original sheet (11 1/2 x 15 1/4"), on quality creme machine laid paper.  The print recreates the original markings from the 19th C originals 

("Imprimerie Remond" / "Langlois sculp"), no plate mark. Includes sheet in French with original commentary by Claude Antoine Thory.  

 

Editions du Chene was a highly regarded French art publisher mid 20th C and, along with Ariel Press in London, engaged the same prestige printer - K G Lohse of Germany - to produce a series of Redoute's famed roses for general commercial release. One supposes that at this time the originals were already out of reach for the middle class art market (today the 1817 originals fetch $2000-$3000). And the post war period was a high point for the market for affordable reproductions of "fine art", hence the appearance of two sets of Redoute's roses the same decade.  While the Ariel Press called for traditional lithography/collography for their plates, Editions du Chene, perhaps to focus on a lower price point, had their set done in offset lithography - a cheaper process with the ability to do larger print runs. Though from a distance of two feet the color saturation might appear similar to most observers.
