CONDITION REPORT

Good antique condition with age-related toning and discolouration to the paper and mount. The hand colouring remains attractive and the engraved detail is clear.

The older black-painted wooden frame with gilt inner detail shows general age-related wear, including rubbing, small chips and losses around the edges and corners.

DESCRIPTION

An original 19th-century hand-coloured steel engraving titled “Salzburg von Aigen aus” (Salzburg from Aigen), dating to around 1842.

The view was drawn by J. M. Bayrer and engraved by Johann Poppel of Nuremberg. It depicts Salzburg viewed from Aigen, with the city and surrounding landscape beyond and finely detailed figures and livestock in the foreground.

The engraved linework has been enhanced with delicate hand colouring in muted period tones.

Presented behind glass in an older black-painted wooden frame with gilt inner detailing and a ruled mount. The reverse retains a Kensington Art Framers label, 131 Kensington Church Street, London W.8.
