Wakizashi in Shirasaya.

Signed: 景光 Kagemitsu.

A "Kagemitsu" sword refers to a masterpiece forged by Osafune Kagemitsu—the third-generation head of the Osafune school, one of the most renowned lineages of swordsmiths in Japanese history, active in Bizen Province (present-day Okayama Prefecture) during the late Kamakura period (early 14th century). Swords crafted by Kagemitsu are of exceptional quality, and many remain designated as National Treasures or Important Cultural Properties to this day.

The third-generation head of the prestigious Osafune school's direct lineage, following his grandfather Mitsutada and his father Nagamitsu. Distinguished *jigane* (forged steel texture) and style: while perhaps lacking the flamboyance of his father Nagamitsu, he produced steel with an exceptionally fine and beautiful grain and excelled at creating sharp, taut *suguha* (straight) temper lines. Unique design: he is renowned for originating a distinctive tempering pattern known as *kataochi-gunome*, characterized by semi-circular shapes with angular shoulders. He was also a master of intricate and beautiful blade carvings.
