Description

Beautiful one-of-a-kind signed studio art pottery vase featuring a sculpted three-dimensional frog climbing over the rim.

The wheel-thrown stoneware vessel has a rich, mottled glaze in deep blue, charcoal, rust, ochre and earthy brown tones. The front is decorated with a large hand-incised or sgraffito-style botanical/flower design outlined against the dark glazed background.

The standout feature is the hand-modeled frog incorporated into the rim, with its body extending across the lip and legs descending onto the exterior of the vase.

The underside has a large hand-incised artist’s signature, shown clearly in the photographs. The signature has not been positively identified, so the piece is being offered as signed studio pottery rather than attributed to a particular artist.
