Vintage 1970s IMHOF Swiss Modernist Brass Wall Clock – Junghans Quartz

A superb and unusual vintage IMHOF Swiss wall clock, believed to date from the 1970s and featuring a striking modernist design with a substantial gold-tone/brass case, finely textured silver-tone champagne dial and raised black baton hour markers.

The clock has a particularly unusual tapered wedge-shaped case, measuring approximately 6cm deep at the top and tapering to approximately 3cm at the bottom. When hung on a wall this deliberately angles the clock face downwards, making the dial easier to view from below and giving the clock a distinctive architectural appearance from the side.

The dial is signed IMHOF and SWISS, together with the period electrical/lightning symbol.

Fitted with a quality Junghans W739 Quartz movement, clearly marked:

Powered by a small 1.5V N / LR1 battery.

Fully working and tested. The clock has been run continuously for over 24 hours and is keeping good time.

This is an exceptionally substantial little clock. Despite measuring only approximately 13cm (5.1”) in diameter, it weighs approximately 926g, reflecting the heavy metal construction.

A scarce and seldom-seen IMHOF design with a wonderful 1970s modernist / Mid-Century Modern aesthetic. I have been unable to find another identical example, making this an especially interesting piece for an Imhof, Junghans, vintage clock or 20th-century design collector.

Condition:

Good vintage condition overall with age-related marks, surface wear, patina and some spotting consistent with its age. Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the condition description. It has deliberately not been heavily polished in order to preserve its vintage appearance.
