A beautiful French Restauration-period jam jar or sugar bowl, dating to around 1820. This elegant table piece combines a finely pierced silver-plated metal frame with a clear crystal insert, creating a refined decorative object typical of the French tableware of the early 19th century.
The overall shape is inspired by an antique vase, with gracefully curved handles decorated with scrolling motifs and clusters of fruit. The raised base is enriched with foliage and oval motifs, while four small ball feet support the piece. The crystal bowl is wheel-cut with a distinctive gadrooned pattern, adding both texture and sparkle to the design.
The hinged-style covered form gives the piece a particularly elegant presence, whether displayed as an antique sugar bowl, jam jar, or simply as a decorative French tableware object. Two marks are stamped underneath the base, consistent with the Restauration period.
