• Time Zone Differences: Because of the international date line, the news reached Japan and parts of Asia on August 15, when Emperor Hirohito broadcast the surrender to the Japanese public. 
• Formal Conclusion: The formal surrender documents were later signed aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945.
