Admiral Sir George Edwin Patey (1859-1935) Signed Letter
In this interesting letter, Patey mentions that he served in the British Royal Navy for nearly 50 years across the globe. Rather than recounting his entire distinguished naval history, he humbly highlights being stationed in San Francisco between 1877 and 1878 while serving as a midshipman aboard H.M.S. Shah, which served as the flagship for the Pacific Station during that period.
4.5" x 7" bifold is in fine condition with light age toning. The original envelope included.

Dear Mr Blodgett,
Thank you for your interesting letter. I served for nearly fifty years in the British Navy in all parts of the World & I am afraid it would take too long to give you a history of my career. I was at San Francisco in 1877, 1878 when serving as a midshipman on board H.M.S. "Shah", then flagship on the Pacific Station.
Yours very truly,
George Patey
