This is a spectacular Danbury Mint 1:24-scale 1956 Packard Caribbean Convertible, beautifully finished in the striking Corsican Black and Naples Orange color combination and individually numbered #1226 of only 5000 on the Limited Edition plate mounted beneath the car.
One of the most remarkable features of this Caribbean is its extraordinary reversible seating system. Danbury Mint recreated the unusual seating of the full-size 1956 Caribbean with eight individually removable and reversible seat cushions, each sculpted to fit its proper position. The cushions can be removed, reversed, and repositioned to create two different interior looks.
Even the way the cushions are handled is wonderfully engineered. Danbury supplied a special magnetic-tipped tool specifically for lifting and positioning them. The photographs show the tool in use, along with the cushions both installed and removed, making it easy to see just how clever — and genuinely fun — this feature is.
The Corsican Black and Naples Orange color treatment is especially striking. Naples Orange forms the bold exterior side accent, is repeated in the striping across the seat cushions, and even appears on the inside of the convertible-top assembly, tying the exterior and interior together beautifully.
The removable convertible top is unusually detailed in its own right. Rather than leaving the underside plain, Danbury Mint reproduced the supporting bars, framework, and structural elements beneath the covering. The top components are also shown separately in their original molded plastic holders.
The operating detail throughout is exceptional. The hood opens to reveal a highly detailed engine compartment, both doors open to provide an excellent view of the dashboard, steering wheel, seating, and interior trim, and the trunk opens to reveal the fitted spare tire and detailed luggage compartment. The underside is equally impressive, with a beautifully reproduced chassis and mechanical detailing.
The exterior detailing is equally impressive, with extensive brightwork, Packard badging, wide whitewall tires, finely reproduced trim, and dual telescoping rear antennas. The primary vehicle photographs show the antennas in their retracted position. Following the three box photographs, the final vehicle photograph shows both antennas fully extended and confirms that both are intact and in excellent condition.
All pictured accessories are included, including the eight removable/reversible seat cushions, magnetic positioning tool, and removable convertible-top components. No papers, certificate, or title are included.
From the dramatic Corsican Black and Naples Orange bodywork to the ingenious reversible seating, magnetic cushion tool, elaborate convertible-top construction, opening panels, and exceptional mechanical detailing, this is an unusually elaborate Danbury Mint model and a gorgeous miniature of one of Packard’s most flamboyant automobiles.
PACKAGING & CONDITION
VEHICLE: Near Mint and gorgeous overall, with only a few extremely tiny spots visible in the black finish (see pic of rear passenger side wheel well) and a very slight area of discoloration on the rear fabric, which is completely concealed when the convertible top is installed. Both telescoping rear antennas are intact and extend properly, as specifically shown in the final vehicle photograph following the three box photographs. All pictured accessories are present, including the eight removable/reversible seat cushions, magnetic positioning tool, and removable convertible-top components. No papers, certificate, or title are included. As with any hand-assembled precision diecast model, there may be additional tiny factory-level finish or assembly variations visible only under extreme close inspection. An exceptionally attractive and unusually elaborate display example that looks terrific from every angle!
BOX: Near mint overall and structurally very sound, with only mild shelf wear. There is a very slight corner crunch and a small localized dent at one front corner, both clearly shown in the photographs and neither affecting the contents or interior packaging. The word “BLACK” is handwritten prominently on the front of the box, exactly as shown. The original fitted Styrofoam packaging is clean, undamaged, and in excellent condition. The side panel is printed “LIMITED EDITION 1956 PACKARD CARIBBEAN CONVERTIBLE” and carries the visible barcode number 2008610000118.
