This is a beautiful vintage letter opener featuring a detailed cherub or putto seated atop ornate Rococo-style scrolling decoration.

The elaborate cast handle has a gold-tone/gilt brass appearance with wonderful dimensional detail and naturally aged patina. The cherub appears to be holding a small cluster of fruit or grapes.

Measures approximately 6 1/2 inches long.

The piece is unmarked, and the exact maker, country of origin and age are unknown.

Please note that the blade shows considerable age-related wear, including scratches and areas where the gold-tone surface/finish has flaked or worn away, revealing the silvery metal beneath. The handle also shows age-related wear and patina. I have left the piece as found and have not attempted to polish it.

A charming and unusual decorative desk accessory for a collector of antique and vintage letter openers, cherubs, putti or Rococo-style pieces.
