Bashofu is a traditional textile handwoven from the fiber of the ito-basho (Japanese fiber banana) plant, historically produced in the Amami Islands and Okinawa. The process — harvesting the fiber, spinning it by hand, and weaving it on a traditional loom — is labor-intensive and increasingly rare today.
This piece carries a lightning-bolt (inazuma) motif and shows light staining and wear consistent with age.
