A striking vintage ceramic covered butter or cheese dish, dated 1973 and hand-inscribed to the base “Mae Nailon”.
The piece features a rich deep green glaze contrasted with cream-coloured raised decoration. The domed cover is particularly beautiful, with an elaborate continuous relief depicting lively figural scenes amongst trees, foliage and architectural details. The sculptural decoration gives the piece wonderful depth and character from every angle.
The cover is finished with a pointed finial handle and sits on a coordinating oval serving plate with a decorative green border.
A wonderfully unusual piece of 1970s decorative ceramics, equally appealing displayed in a kitchen or dining room as it is used for serving butter or cheese.
