This is a small (about 9 inches long) gray model of the helicopter used by Team America
throughout the movie (a Black Hawk UH-60). Bill Pope (director of photography) would use
little models like this with a tiny hand-held camera to test how certain angles and things would
look. (Like shooting the helicopter flying over a flat image of Paris, would that look bad or not?)
Apparently not, as they ended up filming the movie that way... :)
The screenshots included above show Bill doing this with a different helicopter from the making
of bonus material on the DVD.
This helicopter has a red string hanging out of it, and a metal pipe installed so it could be suspended
on the end of a little stick or metal rod. I believe this model was used to test how it look for the
team to be rappelling out of the helicopter as seen in the opening shots of the movie.
(The main blades and rotor pop off the model easily.)
This was purchased from Premiere Props back in 2005 when they were selling
props from the film for the studio. Their original COA is included.
