A fascinating and genuinely historic late Victorian Jewish Ketubah (marriage contract), dated 20 March 1892 and associated with the East London Synagogue, London.
The printed document bears the heading “United Synagogue – LONDON” together with Hebrew text and beautifully engraved decorative columns, floral motifs and classical architectural details. The traditional Hebrew/Aramaic marriage text is surrounded by an elaborate Victorian ornamental design.
The document has been completed by hand, with handwritten entries and annotations in Hebrew and English, including the marriage date and the reference to East London Synagogue.
The Ketubah is presented in an older period frame, adding considerably to its visual and historical appeal.
Historical interest
This is an authentic-looking example of a Jewish marriage document from Victorian London, dating from the late 19th century when London's Jewish communities were expanding rapidly in the East End.
The East London Synagogue was an important Jewish congregation in the area and was associated with the United Synagogue.

The document is over 130 years old and shows age-related wear consistent with its history, including foxing/discolouration, creasing, handling marks and areas of fading to the paper and handwriting.
