This is a marvellous Antique, George III period, hand blown Glass Weather Barometer with a wood wall mount shelf.
It also called a Goethe barometer or storm glass, which works by observing how atmospheric pressure changes the level of liquid. High pressure forces the liquid down into the container's body and out of the narrow, open spout, indicating fair weather. Conversely, low pressure allows the liquid to rise higher in the spout, signalling impending rain or storms. This Barometer has clear water inside, usually it is coloured water to make it more visible.
It is in good condition but does exhibit a little age-related wear but no chips, cracks or restoration. The wall mount is also showing a little wear at the point to the top. It measures approximately 30cm high.
