■ Kiryu Textiles
Kiryu City in Gunma Prefecture, nurtured by the rich natural environment of mountains and rivers, is known as the capital of textiles and has been called "Nishijin in the west, Kiryu in the east." Kiryu textiles, produced in this region for a long time, are praised as "unparalleled" and continue to be highly regarded both domestically and internationally. Evolving to meet diverse needs, it is also attracting attention in the creative world as a material that enables fancy and original expression.
■ Chest Textiles
This fabric, which at first glance resembles a obi (sash), was once woven for decorating paulownia chests. As the name "chest" suggests, it was woven in Kiryu to be used to adorn paulownia chests, which were mainly produced in Kyoto.
It conveys the weight of the inheritance of the history and techniques of luxurious and dignified gold brocade, while simultaneously reaffirming its high potential as a creative material. When considering its intended use as a stamp book bag, we were convinced that its durability, exquisite weaving, and high artistic value made it the perfect material.
■ Design Concept
Based on the long-standing Japanese culture of "wrapping precious things," the flap was designed to be longer than usual. The stitching is done in a way that does not detract from the beauty of the fabric, and the design is simple, without any unnecessary embellishments.
