MILTON, John. Paradise Lost. A Poem in Twelve Books. From the text of Thomas Newton. Birmingham: printed by John Baskerville for J. and R. Tonson in London. 1759. Small 4to. Rebound in quarter pale brown leather over marbled handmade paper in a quite delightfully amateurish attempt, with faded gilt titles to spine and homemade title in leather to front pastedown, and recorded at front hinge, rear hinge exposed. No frontispiece, with occasional cracks but holding well. Title page reinforced and repaired. Several water-stains and other stains throughout, sometimes severe, the text often clean.

The second Baskerville single-volume edition published a year after the first. In 1757, Baskerville became a household name having produced the famed quarto edition of the works of Virgil. Uncommon.
