1st edition, 1st printing hardback published by Longmans, Green & Co. in 1889.
Boards have marks and wear. Corners are a little bumped. Spine is faded and heavily worn, especially in the top half. Binding is firm. Edges of text-block are toned and soiled, particularly along the top edge. Front and rear endpapers have some foxing. Front free endpaper has an inscription in pencil. A few pages are dog-eared or chipped in the corners but book is free from writing and underlining throughout. Spine appears to have come into contact with liquid at some point as the red dye from the cover has bled through into the text-block towards the back of the book.
