Antique Silver and Paste Butterfly Brooch Circa 1900 40mm
A gorgeous Edwardian brooch taking the form of a silver butterfly bedecked with clear paste stones across the body and wings, with bright green pastes decorating the wing tips. Beautifully modelled, the butterfly has two pairs of wings, angled slightly upwards, with the clear paste backed in silver, while the green stones have an open setting, allowing light to flow through them, giving them extra luminosity and glow. Tiny red cabochons are set in place for the eyes, above which sit two antennae. From the back, the silver has a lovely smooth quality and the insect's legs are neatly tucked up to the body. The paste stones are of very good quality, full of sparkle and life. A wonderful, bright and beautiful antique brooch.
