French Art Nouveau Gilded Bronze Sculpture on Onyx Base Georges Van Der Straet

Georges Van Der Straeten (1856-1941) was a Belgian sculptor famous for making delicate busts and figures. He worked in the Art Nouveau style, finding new ways to express the human form. Born in Ghent, he worked in Paris and in 1903 became a Knight of the Legion d'Honneur. Later in life he retuned home to Ghent, where he died in 1941.
