Shadow Box construction means the silversmith fabricated a tiny domed room — The stone sits down inside on a floor of sterling, protected. That is topped with another domed sheet of sterling, the decorative outer frame to create depth you can actually see. 

More silver, and a heck of a lot more labor. It's not just a bezel. It's architecture...difficult craftmanship in 3-d.

Navajo artist Shirley Skeets, made this piece, and the hand stamping is heavy and nice, niece.
