Up for sale is an extremely rare, one-of-a-kind Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster neck. The headstock has the 1966–1968 CBS-style shape and logo, but unlike most necks from that era, this one features a slab rosewood fingerboard with a 9.5” radius. It measures .840” at the 1st fret and .900” at the 12th, with a very comfortable C-shaped profile. The medium frets are in excellent condition, and it comes with vintage-style Fender Kluson tuners and the original neck screws.

The neck has an early Fender Custom Shop stamp and “Brooks,” referring to Larry Brooks. Larry was Fender’s head of Artist Relations during the 1990s and worked directly with well-known players on custom one-off instruments and signature models. I don’t know which guitar this neck originally came from, but it’s a very unusual piece from the early days of the Fender Custom Shop. Based on the early Custom Shop markings, Larry’s time there, and the timing before Brazilian rosewood restrictions became much stricter in the early 1990s, there’s a good chance this neck was built before those changes and is Brazilian rosewood.

I contacted Fender Custom Shop about the neck, and they agreed that the fingerboard visually appears to be Brazilian rosewood. However, without the original guitar’s serial number, they can’t access the build records or officially verify it.
