A special fall prevention hood is newly manufactured on the cab side of the leading car. Curve rail C243 with a radius of 243 mm can also pass through the connecting parts.
The 223 series also has the function that the headlights shine regardless of the direction of travel when the leading cars used in the 281 series Haruka are connected. Conversion between normal time and connection is possible with the switch in the car.

The head tail light and front display are equipped with a constantly lit board and an ON-OFF switch.
The front display is 98391 with the printed part "A New Rapid Himeji" installed, 98393 with the printed part "A Rapid Maibara" installed, and both sets come with replacement parts.
The car number is selectable and comes with a transfer sheet (excluding the 98392 add-on set).
The cab side of the leading car is already equipped with a TN coupler.
Power with flywheel, new current collection system, silver wheels adopted.
M-13 motor adopted.
98391 The basic set uses a hanging paper box with a window.
