An attractive original vellum manuscript deed, written in Latin in a dense professional legal hand, thought to date from the late medieval or early Tudor period, circa 1450–1550.

A single-sheet vellum legal document, with strong display appeal, dark manuscript script, old folds, natural vellum toning and a docketed endorsement verso.

The opening wording includes the classic legal phrase granting property “ad terminum quinque annorum” — for a term of five years — with the charming symbolic annual rent of “unam rosam ad festum Sancti Johannis Baptiste” — one rose at the Feast of St John the Baptist.

The docket verso reads "Willelmus filius Thome de Erford" most plausibly translating as “William son of Thomas of Orford” the village in Lincolnshire.

Original antique condition as shown. The vellum is in good condition, with three vertical folds, light age toning, and some patchy staining on the docket side consistent with a document of this age. The manuscript ink remains dark and visually impressive, although worn in places. Please study the images carefully, as they form part of the description.
