Banksy Backdoor Nola (White)
A rare opportunity to buy a classic Banksy print at a fraction of the signed and numbered equivalent. Read more below.
What is a ‘backdoor’ print?
For those not familiar with Banksy’s so-called ‘back door’ prints, they are prints that were produced at the same or similar time as the main edition but didn’t make the final edition.
Printed by Pictures On Walls in London,
or one of their master printers, they are considered ‘extras’ or test prints
that were not included in the final edition and ultimately should have been
discarded – however some were later gifted or sold, out of the ‘back door’.
Printed using the same screens and
techniques, they are typically identical to the main edition. They
are not typically numbered or signed, making them less sought-after and
therefore less valuable than the same prints that are numbered from the main
edition but this in turn provides an opportunity to get something very similar
to the ‘real thing’ but at a fraction of the cost. These now rarely come to market, and this is the only white Nola available.
Other
The buyer should note that back door
prints do not come with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from Pest Control,
and the buyer agrees to buy on the basis that a COA cannot be applied for in
the future from Pest Control - a request would be rejected.
I cannot answer any questions regarding
where I acquired the print (which was more approximately 15 years ago) or provide any
supporting documentation that proves its history or authenticity. I can confirm
that as a collector of Banksy’s prints during this time, I have no doubt this
is a true backdoor print, having compared it against the main edition whilst
also at the time doing my due diligence in checking the back story and where
the print originated from.
This provides an excellent opportunity
for a buyer to acquire a Banksy print at a price that is far less than the main
edition, despite being practically identical. All sales are finals, no returns
unless the unlikely scenario that the print is damaged in transit.
Estimated value
It is inherently difficult to value backdoor prints. The only other backdoor print available on eBay is a Christ with Shopping Bag, at $25,000 USD.
Based on this, and other sales values of his backdoor prints in recent years, we estimate to value of this print to be £6-8k. Our asking price is therefore £7,500 GBP.
