Circa 1940s linen postcard view of the Celilo Falls, located on the Columbia River in both Wasco County, Oregon and Klickitat County, Washington. This card features Native Americans spear fishing for salmon off platforms erected below the Falls. The rights to this sacred fishing site had been permanently granted to the indigenous peoples by the US government. Sadly in 1957, when the Dalles Dam was completed downstream, a large lake was formed (Celilo Lake) that completely submerged these Falls. Condition: This card has a horizontal crease running halfway across, located in the upper right section (in the waterfall area). There is a second minor crease that runs diagonally across the lower right quadrant. The upper right corner has a bend at the tip and it also has wear. The other corners have corner "bumps". There is a discolored (yellowed) strip along the left edge of this card and the card has some edge wear.
