DETAILED DESCRIPTION
This is beautifully preserved
Antique/Vintage Catholic Devotional Scapular celebrates the mystery of the Immaculate Conception. Found tucked safely between the pages of an 1870s Catholic Bible, this piece has been shielded from light, dust, and handling for decades, resulting in its remarkable state of preservation.
The scapular consists of two interconnected cloth panels suspended by a traditional dark brown woven cord:
- Right Panel: Features the iconic image of Our Lady from the Miraculous Medal, standing upon a globe with rays of grace streaming from her hands. It is encircled by the English petition: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee”.
- Left Panel: Features the ornate "AM" (Ausspice Maria) monogram tightly woven under a royal crown, flanked by cherubim/angels and framed with stitched laurel branches.
Both panels are meticulously finished with a wonderful cream-colored tatted lace border and defensive corner stitching, showcasing the high-quality personal craftsmanship typical of pieces made by religious orders or highly skilled faithful during the era.
