About the artist
Born in New York City in 1950, Jim Kaufman lived much of his life in New Jersey before moving to Sedona, Arizona where he presently resides. After serving a stint in the Army, he set up a rock shop and taught himself lapidary work that later became his forte. His inlay work has been influential on the work of many artists, including that of Nicolai Medvedev, and even the Native Americans of the Southwest with whom he is in contact in Arizona. Kaufman's exemplary work has garnered him three AGTA Cutting Edge Awards and he was inducted into the Lapidary Hall of Fame in 1997. This could be purchased by a person who just wants something aesthetically pleasing, or perhaps a Jim Kaufman Intarsia collector - but the most likely person will set this up in a pendant, whether very simply or ornately. Intarsia can frequently be seen in wire wrapped pieces.l
