This is a souvenir my grandparents acquired while traveling during the Showa era; it is an old item from several decades ago.

"Sarubobo" is a traditional doll made in the Hida region of Gifu Prefecture (including Takayama City). Since "bobo" means "baby" in the local Hida dialect, the name literally translates to "monkey baby." These dolls are cherished as lucky charms that bring good fortune—such as successful matchmaking, safe childbirth, and marital harmony—and serve as talismans to ward off evil, playing on the wordplay where "saru" (monkey) sounds like the Japanese word for "to leave" or "to go away" (implying that misfortune will depart).

Condition

This item has been in long-term storage and remains unused. Although there is some fading due to age, it is in good condition.
