In 2026, the world celebrates the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America. Ukrainian-American relations have a relatively short yet meaningful history. On December 25, 1991, the United States officially recognized Ukraine’s independence, and on January 3, 1992, diplomatic relations were established between the two countries. Support for democratic reforms, institutional development, and the strengthening of international security has played a special role in these relations.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the United States has become one of Ukraine’s key allies in supporting Ukrainian sovereignty by providing military, economic, and humanitarian assistance. Therefore, this Ukrainian postal issue dedicated to the anniversary is not only a tribute to the history of American statehood, but also a symbol of solidarity between the peoples of Ukraine and the United States, united by shared values of freedom, democracy, and dignity.
On May 26, 2026, a new Ukrainian postage stamp titled "The 250th Anniversary of U.S. Independence. FREEDOM 250" will be officially issued and valid for postal use nationwide.
The special First Day cancellation ceremony will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine, 01001, as well as in Washington, DC and Boston, USA.
