Here we have a vintage 1938 - 1940 Clarke Troller Outboard Carrying Case. This is a canvas case with leather handles and a wood platform.
It is dirty and has a few holes in it, but it exists! The interior cloth pockets are just hanging by threads. This does not have the tool kit. The zipper works. Measures approximately 22-1/2” long by 11-1/3” and 14” tall. This was manufactured by the JC Goss Co in Detroit Michigan. Nice antique outboard canvas bag to go with your Clarke Troller outboard! Here is some information we found on the internet about the JC Goss Company and the Clarke Troller:
The J.C. Goss Company has been a Detroit manufacturing staple since 1878, specializing in custom canvas goods, flags, and industrial products. Originally famous for maritime sails, they later expanded into specialized equipment, including the production of standard-issue canvas carrying bags bundled with the unique Clarke Troller outboard motor. The Clarke Troller was a revolutionary, ultra-lightweight outboard motor produced in Detroit between 1938 and 1940. Weighing just 10-1/2 lbs and generating 1.3 horsepower, the motor was engineered with the cylinder positioned underwater. To make this highly portable motor even more convenient, it was marketed with a smart, tailored canvas carrying bag and tool kit as standard equipment.Because the J.C. Goss Company was deeply entrenched in the Detroit marine and industrial supply scene, it was a natural fit for manufacturing these rugged, motor-specific canvas bags.
