Pair of Antique French Gilt Bronze Desk Inkwells with Rams & Fleur-de-Lys – Louis XVI Style, 19th Century
An exceptional and rare pair of 19th-century French gilt bronze desk inkwells, beautifully preserved on their original matching trays. Inspired by the elegant Louis XVI style, these remarkable pieces showcase outstanding craftsmanship and richly detailed decorative work, making them a superb addition to any fine antique collection or executive desk.
Each inkwell is lavishly adorned with finely chased garlands of flowers and fruit in high relief. The elegant tripod supports take the form of stylized ram's heads ending in hoof feet, while the domed lids are crowned with striking three-dimensional Fleur-de-Lys finials, adding a regal touch to the design.
This unusual pair features two different constructions:
One inkwell is permanently attached to its original bronze tray and fitted with a hinged lid.
The second inkwell is removable from its tray and has a fully detachable lid.
The large circular trays are beautifully finished with finely chased geometric and floral borders that enhance the brilliance of the gilt bronze and complete the impressive presentation.
