Original 1823 stampless folded letter cover mailed from Albany, New York to Schenectady, addressed to Daniel Kellog Esq., Counsellor at Law. The cover bears a red circular Albany / Oct 28 postmark, red PAID marking, and manuscript postal rate that appears to read 18½.
The enclosed letter is dated Albany, 28 Oct. 1823 and is a legal/financial letter concerning a debt owed by Simeon West of or near Onondaga. The writer states that West had informed him that Daniel Kellog held an assignment against him for about $300, and the writer asks Kellog about obtaining or using that assignment, offering to pay Kellog’s order at sight for the amount.
