Antique Holy Bible with the Commentaries of Scott & Henry

A substantial Victorian family Bible edited by Rev. John Eadie, D.D., LL.D., containing The Commentaries of Scott & Henry.

Believed to have been published by Howard & Co. in the 1870s (circa 1871) and presented in an impressive embossed leather binding with decorative brass corner mounts and clasp fittings.

A wonderful collector's piece, restoration project or display item for collectors of antique religious books.

Condition

Please read carefully and examine all photographs, as they form part of the description.

• Original embossed leather binding with decorative brass mounts.
• Both boards are detached and the binding will require restoration or rebinding.
• Expected age-related wear, rubbing and edge wear throughout.
• The leather is perishing in places, with some residue transferring when handled.
• Despite the binding issues, the text block remains remarkably clean and well preserved.
• Many pages appear to have seen very little use.
• The Family Register pages remain blank and unused.
• The Portrait Gallery pages are also blank and unused.
• Numerous attractive colour illustrations and decorative pages remain present.

Overall, this is an attractive and increasingly hard-to-find Victorian family Bible that would make an excellent restoration project, display piece or addition to an antiquarian book collection.
