Art Deco Baltic Amber Necklace with 9ct Gold Clasp

A wonderful antique amber necklace comprising both faceted clear amber and butterscotch amber.  Dating from the Art Deco period of the 1920s, and featuring the distinctive symmetrical design of the era, this necklace features 4 faceted amber beads at each side of the 9ct gold clasp and then each side of the piece has alternating faceted beads and superb hamburger-shaped butterscotch amber pairs with central facet edged rondelles of a clear deep reddish colour, these "burgers" and the beads all graduating in size down to the centre of the necklace which has an enormous (13x20mm) faceted bead of clear amber.  The colours are glorious, with the clear amber ranging from rich golden yellow through to a deep reddish orange, like sunshine on a string, while the butterscotch variety ranges from a pale yellow through to a dark orange, some having swirls of clear amber showing in them, too.  The design of the piece is really superb and not one we have seen before.  Amber is a fantastic organic gem, created from the fossilized resin of ancient pine trees, from around the time that dinosaurs were roaming the earth, so not only is it stunningly beautiful, it is natural history made jewellery, too.  A rare and beautiful thing.
