A beautiful antique Japanese Satsuma earthenware square vase dating to the late Meiji period (late 19th–early 20th century).
Finely hand decorated with richly enamelled panels depicting traditional Japanese figures, surrounded by intricate floral, geometric and gilt ornamentation. The cream crackle glaze, vibrant overglaze enamels and extensive gold decoration are characteristic of high-quality export Satsuma pottery produced during the Meiji era.
The base bears a hand-painted Japanese character mark.
An impressive cabinet piece for collectors of antique Japanese ceramics, Oriental art or Meiji period decorative objects.
