A single paged vellum indentured assignment deed relating to land in Haugh, near Milnrow in Butterworth, Lancashire.
The agreement is dated 10 June 1628, during the reign of King Charles the first.
The agreement is between James Hoppwood (or Hopwood) of the Renen roade in Butterworth in the county of Lancaster, yeoman of the one part and James Greave of the Haugh in Butterworth in the county of Lancaster, yeoman of the other part.
For consideration, James Hoppwood has granted, bargained, entfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents does hereby absolutely Grant, bargain and sell unto James Greave, his heirs and assigns forever, the moiety and 1/2 part in two equal parts to be divided of all that close, furze and a parcel of land, Meadow and pasture lying and being in the Haugh in Butterworth, called or commonly known by the name of the Overend of the Cowe Hey with the appurtenances, which said close contains 2 acres of land or thereabouts, now in the occupation of James Hoppwood and Thomas Hoppwood, their assigns or assignees, or some of them and all those woods, underwoods, garths, gates, quarries, common of pasture, waters, commodities, profits, liberties, advantages and hereditaments, whatsoever thereunto belonging or in any way appertaining.
The bottom margin contains the signatures
of James Hoppwood, including pendant tails, but no wax seal.
The document is in reasonable condition. Obvious fold lines and some wear in the fold lines. Some discolouration throughout. A small repair to the right periphery. 
Beautifully embellished in the top left corner.

The document measures 29“ x 13“, not including the pendant tails.
